Is correction worth it in Des Plaines?
As checked on 2026-10-03, ComEd's delivery ratebook contains no power-factor, kVAR or kVA billing adjustment. ComEd can require correction to at least 85% lagging. Retail supply contracts can have separate terms, and transmission pass-through charges were not reviewed. With no billing adjustment, correction has to pay for itself in other ways: freeing transformer and switchgear capacity before an expansion, lowering losses and voltage drop on heavily loaded feeders, or meeting a utility requirement. If you have drives, harmonics are often the bigger issue.
